A medical isotope

A medical isotope solution is liquid that gets injected into a patient's arm and travels to a specific part of the body, depending on what chemical it is paired with. The isotopes emit gamma rays that allow doctors to capture more detailed photos of the body than they could with other technology. Used to treat and diagnose illnesses, medical isotopes are produced by Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. AECL's nuclear reactor in Chalk River produced more than half the world's isotopes.

On May 15, discovered a radioactive water leak coming from a wall at the reactor. It caused a shutdown at the plant.

AECL insists the leak poses no threat.

Where does Natural Resources Minister Lisa Raitt and her "sexy" isotopes fit in?

AECL is a Crown corporation that reports to Parliament through Raitt. The distribution of the isotopes falls to Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq and provincial health ministers. On the candid tape recording, Raitt said Aglukkaq seemed terrified of the issue.
