New credit system introduce in masters courses

CHANDIGARH: Panjab University
has decided to introduce the credit system in masters courses and has formed a committee to figure out themodalities for this. Under the system, students will be able to study even those subjects, which are not part of their standard course, stream or discipline, according to their needs and interests.

This will allow students to get credit for subjects that their regular degree course does not offer.
For example, an MSc physics student can also study management related subjects. However, whether such a combination will be possible under the system is yet to be decided, said sources.

Vice chancellor RC Sobti said the system’s modalities will be worked out by the next academic session. He added that its introduction will make education more broad-based and facilitate diversity in courses.PU also intends to provide the credit system in its affiliate colleges that offer masters courses. The system will allow for transfer of credits if a student leaves one institution and joins another. Officials claimed that this system would also help PU in tying up with universities abroad.
