European Flights Disappear

According to an aviation analyst, flights from the UK to mainland Europe have dropped in numbers by 140 routes in just one year. This as well as other cut backs and suspended services on routes to worldwide destinations could eventually see the cost of air travel rise for residents in the UK.

Many of the smaller regional airports have been hardest hit after seeing an excellent growth for the past 20 years. Some customers have even bought property abroad because of the relative ease of travelling there, but they will now have to travel further afield just to get their second homes.

Airports in Coventry and Shoreham by Sea no longer handle international flights since the start of the year. We don’t want to get back to 10 or 15 years ago when, if you were able to fly from a regional airport, then it would be hugely expensive, that would be a real shame, said the chairman of the Air Transport Users Association.

The figures released showed that routes from the UK to Spain were down by 20 and the Spanish government confirmed that British tourists were down by around 17 per cent. This will not be purely down to a drop in routes to Spain but it would not have helped the matter.
