UNEMPLOYED people in Hamilton, Blantyre and Larkhall are being given the chance to study at university for free.Routes to Work South are working in partnership with the Open University and South Lanarkshire Council to offer the jobless the chance to enhance their skills by studying for free with the Open University.

OU Openings is a short first-step programme which offers a gentle introduction to study.To join up you don’t need any qualifications and better still you don't need to sit an exam at the end of the course. The programme lets people develop learning skills without the pressure of exams.

topics on offer include Understanding Health, Starting with Maths and Psychology.All studying is done at home and course materials will be delivered to the student’s door.Students will be supported by a local ‘study buddy’ group at Routes to Work South.Lynn Callaghan of Routes to Work South is currently recruiting for the next Openings programme.Anyone interested in this learning opportunity should telephone Routes to Work South on 0141 646 0500.
