Akron-Canton Airport inaugurated nonstop flights to Milwaukee Tuesday with a party themed on Milwaukee based Harley Davidson Motor Co. complete with the company’s motorcycles on display.SkyWest Airlines, in partnership with AirTran Airways, is now the airport’s fifth carrier, with the service to General Mitchell International Airport. The new flights connect into AirTran Airways’ growing hub at Mitchell, allowing for connections to cities like Minneapolis/ St. Paul, Denver, Las Vegas and nearby northern Chicago.
Most passengers headed west now make connections at Atlanta, but Milwaukee could replace Atlanta for westbound travelers. That would be our hope, said airport president and CEO Rick McQueen. They have some building to do with that hub. Hopefully, as they grow that hub, it will be another great connection for us to go west.Airport spokeswoman Kristie Van Auken said daily flights to Milwaukee will depart at 11:47 a.m., 2:30 and 7 p.m.
Airport officials also announced the Milwaukee Mancation and Harley-Davidson Giveaway. The contest includes airfare for two to Milwaukee, two night hotel stay March 5-7, tickets to the March 6 Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Milwaukee Bucks game and a tour of a Milwaukee brewery. The winner also will receive a Harley bike for a year courtesy of Liberty Harley-Davidson in Cuyahoga Falls.
