Study Abroad in Germany

THE WOODLANDS, Texas Lone Star College-Montgomery is offering students the opportunity to earn up to six academic credit hours while studying abroad in Germany this summer. Students will complete History 1302 or Psychology 2301 or both, which are offered online during the Summer I session, and embark on a 10-day trip to see historic sites in Berlin and Leipzig.Current college students, as well as graduating high school seniors are eligible.

The trip will allow students to explore how the events of the 20th century influenced the people living in Germany,said Kathleen Monahan, professor of psychology and one of the two trip coordinators.It will also allow a comparative look at East Germany and West Germany and the effects of totalitarian and communist rule on the people in the region, added Betsy Powers, professor of history and the other trip coordinator.Some coursework will be completed before the trip to Germany, including a group field trip to the Holocaust Museum in Houston to lay the foundation for the trip. While in Germany, students will attend history and psychology lectures delivered by faculty members at Universitat Leipzig, visit two concentration camps, and see numerous museums and exhibits. Class assignments will be associated with each excursion.

The cost for the trip, which covers the cost of airfare, hostels, and fees for tours and museums while in Germany, is $2,399. Students will also be responsible for tuition payments for each course they register for. Both courses begin Monday, June 7, 2010. The approximate date of travel to Germany is June 20 June 30, 2010.Since space is limited, students are encouraged to register as quickly as possible. A completed application, along with a deposit, is due by Monday, February 1, 2010.
