Abu Dhabi Airport Company’s official said despite continuous rain and thunder showers, flight operations in Abu Dhabi emirate were normal.Emirates Airlines confirmed that none of its flights were cancelled or diverted. A number of flights, however, were slightly delayed, including EK0510 from Dubai to Delhi, EK133 from Dubai to Moscow, and EK763 from Dubai to Johannesburg.
The worst impact of the heavy rain occurred Saturday night as a big build up kept the pilots circling several times before they could finally land at the tarmac of Dubai International Airport, Christoph Mier, spokesman of Lufthansa, told Khaleej Times.Scheduled holidays and excursions to and from Dubai have also been hit.Kulwant Singh, managing partner of Lama Desert Tours and Cruises in Dubai, said his company had received between 650 and 700 cancellations since Monday March 1 from various individuals and groups of tourists, students and corporate bodies booked for cruises, excursions and holidays, he said.
