The College of Charleston has awarded more than 100 scholarships for students to study abroad during the summer of 2010. This is the largest number of students to ever receive scholarships for a study abroad experience.Recipients are determined by need and merit and get between $500 and $2,000 toward their study abroad experience. In some cases, this financial help makes studying abroad less expensive than taking classes on campus.
“One of the goals of the College’s new strategic plan is to provide students with the global and interdisciplinary perspectives they’ll need in the 21st century, says Andrew Sobiesuo, assistant provost for international education. It is one reason the College dedicates nearly $200,000 to support students as they study abroad and gain valuable global experience. The number of applicants increased more than 30-percent from summer 2009. Overall, nearly 200 students received scholarships to study abroad during the 2009-2010 academic year.Applications for the 2010 fall study abroad scholarships are due by April 16, 2010.
