Taiwan's Trans Asia Airways announced Wednesday that it will launch non stop flights from Kaohsiung City in southern Taiwan to Xiamen and Fuzhou cities in southeastern China's Fujian Province this week.According to the Taipei-based carrier, it will use 182-seat Airbus 321 planes to ply the two routes. The airline said it will start the weekly Kaohsiung Fuzhou route from Thursday and the Kaohsiung Xiamen route from Friday, mainly to serve the many Taiwanese businesspeople working in the two Chinese cities.
Those who fly from Kaohsiung to Fuzhou or Xiamen will save at least one-hour of travel time than if they were to take ferries to those Chinese cities via Taiwan's outlying Kinmen or Matsu islands, a company spokesperson said.Trans Asia already offers direct cross-Taiwan Strait flights from the Taipei Songshan Airport to Fuzhou and from the Taichung Chingchuankang Airport in central Taiwan to Fuzhou and Xiamen cities.China Airlines, Taiwan's largest carrier, also announced recently that it will offer non stop flights from Kaohsiung to Guangzhou and Xiamen beginning in June.
