Flights to New York from Delhi

Air India is to resume its non-stop flights to New York from Delhi and Mumbai on Monday .Air India, along with Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines, had stopped operations to Europe, North America and Canada late last week as several European countries closed their airspace which was affected by the flow of volcanic ash from an eruption in Iceland.

In a statement, Air India has said that the flights will operate through alternative routes as the European airspace is closed for normal scheduled air traffic.Sources said that the airline will operate the flight through either the polar route or the southern route to reach the US.The decision to re-start the non-stop flights comes a day after Jet Airways announced that it had received permission to use Athens as a technical transit point to operate flights to the US and Canada. The private sector airline resumed operations from the US and Canada on April 17, while operations from here to the US and Canada began a day later. As there is a backlog of passengers due to flight cancellations over the past few days, passengers are advised to contact the airline before proceeding to the airport, the Air India statement adds.
