Flights to Rome and Barcelona departed Singapore's Changi International Airport yesterday, the airline said, while flights to Paris, Zurich and Amsterdam are scheduled for early today.
In total, seven Singapore Airlines flights to the European destinations have been reinstated the first for the carrier since the Eyjafjallajokull volcano eruption sent plumes of ash billowing across the continent last week.
A Singapore Airlines spokesman said European airspace was progressively opening up, but it could only proceed on a day by day basis. The situation is not clear, it's still quite fluid, a spokesman said.Flights to Athens and Istanbul are operating as normal. While all other services to Europe remain cancelled, the airline is seeking to reinstate as many as possible, the spokesman said.Since Thursday, it has been forced to cancel more than 100 services.
