Saudi airline starts flights to Iraq

Saudi-based Alwafeer airline will begin flights to Iraq today, following a 20-year disruption in service that began following Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait, according to an airline official quoted by the AFP.

Alwafeer, a Jeddah based airline, will make its inaugural flight to Baghdad on Thursday, with one flight weekly scheduled to Baghdad, and two flight to Basra.When the airline launched last September, it targeted mainly Muslim pilgrims visiting Mecca and Medina, with flights from from Niger, Chad, Libya and India. But Alwafeer has now added a weekly flight to Indonesia, and the new Iraqi routes.
