Spirit Airlines, a Florida-based air carrier with four round trip flights a day in and out of Las Vegas, will add a daily flight between McCarran International Airport and Chicago’s O’Hare International in November.The discount carrier announced that it would add daily late-night flights and compete with industry giants United and American on the route.Beginning Nov. 11, Spirit, which flies twin engine Airbus A319, A320 and A321 jets, will have daily flights leaving Chicago at 10 p.m., arriving at McCarran at midnight. The return flights leave Las Vegas at 12:50 a.m., arriving in Chicago at 6:20 a.m.
United currently operates six flights a day between Chicago and Las Vegas and American, five flights a day.Spirit currently offers two daily round trips linking Las Vegas with Detroit and with Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the airline’s hub airport.Spirit is best known as a discount carrier to Caribbean destinations and Central and South America with some domestic flights to Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, Boston and Las Vegas.The company also operates a $9 Fare Club, which enables members to purchase deeply discounted tickets, some as low as $9 one way. The annual membership in the club is $40, but it’s free to customers who acquire Spirit’s branded MasterCard.
