Delta Airlines launch Iceland flights from the Twin Cities

Delta Air Lines has announced that it will inaugurate service to its newest destination, Reykjavik, Iceland on June 1, 2011. Daily Boeing 757 service will originate at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport, make an interim stop in New York at JFK International Airport, and then continue non-stop to Iceland.Atlanta-based Delta, the world's largest airline, operates a major hub in the Twin Cities, offering more than 450 daily flights. Other long-haul service from MSP on Delta includes non-stop flights to Tokyo, London Heathrow, Paris, Amsterdam and Honolulu. The carrier is also expanding its international offerings in December of this year from Minneapolis/St. Paul with daily non-stop flights to Mexico City.

The Boeing 757 aircraft Delta will utilize to Iceland will offer 15 business class seats and 155 in coach. The new service will compete directly with Icelandair, which for many years has offered seasonal non-stops from Minnesota to Reykjavik. The national flag carrier of Iceland flies throughout Europe via its Reykjavik hub, offering U.S. origination flights from MSP, New York's JFK, Boston, Orlando and Seattle.
