SpiceJet Ltd. said Tuesday it will start flights to two overseas destinations in October, making it the first Indian budget carrier to fly internationally.SpiceJet said it will start flights between New Delhi and Nepal's capital Kathmandu on Oct. 7, followed by flights from Chennai to Colombo in Sri Lanka on Oct. 9.
Base price of tickets on the Chennai-Colombo route will be 999 rupees ($21.4) and for the New Delhi-Kathmandu route they will be 1,499 rupees. SpiceJet will use Boeing 737-800 aircraft with a seating capacity of 189 passengers on the routes.A SpiceJet executive in April said the airline will price its tickets 10%-15% lower than other carriers on its overseas routes.The airline said it plans to operate a daily return flight on the Chennai-Colombo route, while there will be six return flights a week on the New Delhi-Kathmandu route.
