Turkish Airlines, the national air carrier of Turkey, celebrates the 50th anniversary of its launching flights to Germany.As part of the celebrations, a THY plane painted in colors of the German flag travelled from Istanbul to Frankfurt on Wednesday.Speaking at the ceremony held at Frankfurt Airport, THY's Director General Temel Kotil said his company started flying to Germany 50 years ago and it currently conducted flights to 9 German cities.
Kotil said THY desired to offer services to more number of Turkish and German passengers.
Pointing to his company's cooperation with the German airline company Lufthansa, Kotil said THY wanted to become a five-star airline in Europe.We have not only a young fleet, but also a young and dynamic staff. We want to direct flights to all European cities,Kotil noted.Based in Istanbul, THY is one of the fastest growing and prosperous airlines in the world. It carries approximately 25 million passengers a year, with direct flights to 127 international and 37 domestic destinations.THY posted 389 million Euro of profit in 2009, becoming one of the top companies in the world, following Air China and Ryan Air, that recorded the highest profit in 2009.
