BA to starts flights to San Juan

British Airways is launching a new route from Gatwick to San Juan in Puerto Rico.BA chief executive Willie Walsh announced the service at the Caribbean Tourism Organisation’s Leadership Strategy Conference in Barbados today. The flights, which will go on sale on Monday, will begin operating in summer 2011.This new route demonstrates the benefit of our new transatlantic joint business with American Airlines, said Walsh.

"With American, we will be able to offer through-connections to the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Martinique, Guadeloupe, St Maarten and the US Virgin Islands of St Croix and St Thomas. We will also have the opportunity to offer two-centre holidays in combination with our existing destinations of Antigua, Grenada, Kingston and St Lucia.BA currently runs services to 14 Caribbean destinations with a total of 55 flights per week. The Gatwick-San Juan service will start in late March or early April 2011 and will operate twice-weekly on Monday and Friday.
But Walsh has warned that continued expansion in the Caribbean is threatened by the increase in aviation taxes takes such as Air Passenger Duty.
