Information of study abroad

Studying Abroad has been quite the topic on campus. CCI provided a study abroad for its students in the Scripps Convergence Lab Thursday.Students were given information about a wide array of opportunities to study abroad at universities all over the world. This year the college is offering faculty led trips to Cyprus, Belgium and France, and Italy. Many other trips sponsored by the college are also available to other countries.Students are able to earn credit hours in journalism, public relations, and international communication courses next summer.

Financial aid and scholarships also play a key role with studying outside the country. A representative from the Programs Abroad Office was there to give students more information about other programs and internships as well as grants and scholarships.Faculty shared some of the benefits students gain from going abroad. Professor Bob Legg, professor of journalism and video production, has led the Cyprus trip for three years now. He talked with some students about what he and his students experienced on their trip.

Different foods, different customs, having to go shopping in a corner market or grocery store and you can't speak any of the language you gain an understanding and a love and respect for other cultures, said Legg. And also for people that come to visit here, you never will approach them the same again. With the many prospective study abroad students in attendance there were also those who been abroad before. Senior journalism and electronic media student Haylie Christ went on the trip to Cyprus last summer. It's kind of just all this culture experience packed into five weeks, Christ said. It was too short though I would definitely say I wish it was longer but it was so worth it.The best thing for students considering studying abroad is to plan early, be very open to stepping outside themselves, and maintain a strong GPA.
