Jetstar's decision to reduce flights between Darwin and Singapore

Jetstar currently flights from Darwin to Singapore twice a day but from next month it will only operate once a day.Chris Young from the Chamber of Commerce says the two flights have been popular. The 7pm flight is a good connector for people that might be flying onto other places, either throughout Asia or even heading on into Europe,he said. The 9pm will be make it a little tighter and a little more difficult for people with ongoing connections, and yet that's the flight that's going to be retained. He says the change will also affect air freight out of Darwin. The fruit, the vegies, the seafood are going to become real issues because those are usually just in time type cargoes that need to travel within a very short time-frame.

Jetstar's Simon Westaway says the airline is diversifying its flights out of Darwin. He says stopping the twice daily flight to Singapore may not be permanent. If demand is high, the strength of the market is there, we'll find a way through the uniqueness of our hub to support more than a daily frequency out of Darwin through to Singapore,he said.We had to make some calls earlier this year.We had extra capacity going out of Australia into Singapore.
