Flights to UK may resume today due to heavy snow

Flight disruptions due to heavy snow in England continued for the second day as almost all flights from India remained suspended. However, airlines confirmed that flights would resume on Tuesday if the weather, which improved on Monday, continued.Heathrow Airport opened its airspace to flights on Monday, after a gap of two days. However, not too many flights could land at the airport as the priority was to clear departures first. Air India operated one flight on Monday afternoon which it claimed took care of Sunday's backlog. Its scheduled flights for London from Delhi and Mumbai, remained suspended.

Jet Airways was also expected to resume its flights on Tuesday.I was earlier scheduled to fly to London on Sunday but all flights were cancelled. Jet flew us to Mumbai on Monday afternoon. On Tuesday we are scheduled to take the early morning flight to London,said Vidya Dhawan, a passenger.An airline official explained it would take a couple of days for schedules to stabilize. "The priority is to deal with the flights that had been diverted and those that are stuck at Heathrow and Gatwik airports. Heathrow has some 200 parking stands and after heavy snowfall aircraft parked there could not move. Unless there is parking space, aircraft will not be able to land either,said an airline official.Kingfisher Airlines, whose two flights one each from Delhi and Mumbai that were diverted to Belgium were waiting till Monday evening to leave for London. An airline official revealed that one aircraft was stuck in Belgium due to lack of anti-freeze liquid which would have to be brought in from France. The airline will be operating a restricted schedule even on Tuesday.
