Two different options for summer study abroad

With approximately one-fourth of the Nebraska Wesleyan student body studying abroad at some point in their college careers, it is not hard to see why summer trips are a popular among students. The 2011 Faculty-led Summer study abroad trips hold quite a variety. There are two different options for summer study abroad. The first is Intensive Language programs. The two choices for 2011 summer are both in the Spanish language, but on different continents. The first is settled in Queretaro, Mexico, and offers six credits for six weeks. All levels of Spanish are accepted, from beginning to advanced. If you need a C-1 or a C-2 gen ed requirement you might want to look at this trip. The dates are May 25- July 6 and the tentative cost is $4200. Alicante, Spain offers the other alternative. Four weeks for four credits (with a six week/six credit option), this trip also accommodates all levels of Spanish. The price for this trip is a little higher at approximately $5200 (4 week) and $7100 (6 week).

The summer classes taught in English are more common for Wesleyan students. These trips can fill gen ed requirements, major requirements or just a fun traveling opportunity for the summer. Experiencing the culture and politics of France and Switzerland will be a two-week trip for three credits, that satisfies a global studies elective and the C-2 gen ed (pending approval). For those interested in sports a two-week trip titled Sports Studies in the UK and Ireland is available with stops in Dublin, Ireland; Edinburgh, Scotland; and London, England. Its open to all students, but an especially good choice for sports management, athletic training and sports medicine majors. The Bedlam tour in Dublin and London has two of the same stops as the sports trip, but this trip has a prerequisite of psychology courses Bioinformatics, Computational Engineering and costs around $3850 plus tuition. Art majors may be interested in the Florentine Art trip with three weeks and three credits. The F-1 gen ed is fulfilled by this art expedition, which is set for May 16-June 7 and costs around $5000. Another trip that satisfies global studies requirements is experiencing the Culture of Japan. A cost of $3200 and span of 15 days at the beginning of June is set for this trip. The final trip set up by Professor Oberst is Development and Culture of India and has a low cost of $2500 for three weeks. The poli-sci 290 course is sastisfied on this trip to India. With the large variety of options for Wesleyan students, the trips can fill up fast, so if you are interested go down to the international relations office on the first floor of the student center.
