As the number of Indian students choosing to go abroad for their further studies goes up every year, the number of foreign students in Panjab University and colleges affiliated to PU too has been growing steadily over the years. As many as 275 students from various nations study here against 191 foreign students the previous year and 135 students in the year 2009.These students belong to countries like USA, UK, Canada, Ethiopia, Bhutan,Tibet, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Iraq, Iran,Germany and Afghanistan, the majority belonging to the latter three. The Indian Council for Cultural Relation (ICCR) provides scholarship for some of the Afghan students to study their choice of course in the university.Students can also get a lot of exposure while studying in such universities and different course Computer Science,Business Administration and Economics and Management.

Considering India as one of the fastest developing countries of the world, the students from across the border now opt for India to study at a much lower cost and a higher standard of education. We are taught only in Persian language in Afghanistan, but here in India we are taught in English and that prepares us better to work anywhere in the world said Riaz, a 2 nd year Afghanistan student in PU.India definitely is a better place for education he added.
