Brazilian airline TAM has revealed that they are to increase the number of flight provided between London Heathrow and the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. With the delivery of two new Airbus A330's to their fleet, the airline has said that the next few months would see an increased number of flights to a number of cities.
With two new aircraft, TAM said that New York, Frankfurt and London would all see an increase in services. From May 2nd a daily service will be available from Frankfurt, offering the ideal route to South America for Germans and connecting passengers. A fifth weekly flight will also be added to New York next month, whilst a sixth service is scheduled to be added in August. For British travellers, TAM is also attempting to double their London to Rio route from three weekly services to six from August 1st. However, this development remains uncertain whilst the airline wait for Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency approval.
Over the coming years Brazil is set to become an even bigger tourist destination than it already is, with the Football World Cup in 2014 and Rio then hosting the Olympics in 2016. TAM stated that they had noted considerable growth in the amount of leisure and business traffic between London and Rio, with business passengers particularly driven by growth in Brazilian banking, finance, gas and oil. So with more travel choice expected to be offered to British travellers, Rio's attraction is due to soar.
