United and Continental Airlines start Non-stop Haiti Flights

United Airlines and Continental Airlines announced the addition of flights to Port-au-Prince on Thursday.United Airlines announce flights out of Newark Liberty International Airport to Toussaint L'Ouverture International Airport three times per week. On July 1, Continental will fly daily trips in and out of Port-au-Prince.The addition of flights to Haiti came as United Airlines is also adding Hawaii and Germany to their routes. The new non-stop flights are the result of a pending merger of United and Continental Airlines which began last October. The two carriers continue to function as separate airlines until the approval of federal regulators is made.

United Chief Executive Jeff Smisek said that federal regulators should give the okay by the end of 2011. The new flights continue to build on our complementary route networks to provide unmatched global flight options for travelers,Jim Compton, United's executive vice president and chief revenue officer, said in a statement.The rebranding of United Airlines' not only included changes in operations but changes in the company's color scheme and logo. These changes will be visible by late August or early September.
