Alaska Airlines to restart flights to Long Beach

Alaska Airlines said Tuesday it will resume daily nonstop flights between Portland, Ore., and Long Beach, Calif., using regional jets operated by SkyWest Airlines.The airline had flown the route for about a year before ending the service in April 2010.Alaska said the route will complement its three daily flights between Long Beach and Seattle.

The Portland-Long Beach flights will start March 12 using 70-seat planes. Alaska said that through next Monday it will sell a limited number of seats at $69 each way for travel between March 12 and May 16.Shares of parent Alaska Air Group Inc. rose 13 cents to close at $70.34. SkyWest Inc. shares fell 32 cents, or 2.6 percent, to close at $11.94.
