80,000 Bulgarians Study Abroad in UK

According to Mrs. Bistra Illieva, head of the Integral Consultancy Company, about eighty thousand Bulgarians have been enrolled in higher education programs abroad, of them about ten thousand in the UK.In her words, computer studies are the most popular major at the beginning of 2012.The interest in IT and computer science programs, such as graphic design, was quite strong during last weekend’s education fair Darbi, held in Sofia.Other popular majors are biology, economics, law and psychology, along with chemistry engineering and biotechnologies.

According to Mrs. Illieva, parents of eight- or nine-graders also attended the higher education expo to check out the opportunities that their children may have to continue their education abroad.Every tenth of those completing their secondary education has chosen to continue their studies abroad, according to the statistics of the Ministry of Education. Out of about 60000 graduates, the Ministry’s administration has certified 6000 diplomas of those willing to try their luck in foreign universities. The headmasters of leading language schools admit that traditionally about a half of their students prefer foreign universities to the Bulgarian ones.
