Frontier to stop flights from Grand Rapids to Milwaukee

Frontier Airlines is discontinuing non-stop flights from Grand Rapids to Milwaukee effective April 16, officials told 24 Hour News 8.The decision is part of a system-wide route restructuring, said Gerald R. Ford International Airport spokesman Bruce Schedlbauer. The airline will continue to fly from Grand Rapids to Denver and Washington, D.C.

Frontier Airlines is a low-cost carrier and has helped Ford Airport in Cascade Township combat high ticket prices. In 2009, the airport had the second-highest prices out of the largest 100 airports in the nation. A new study shows it now has the 25th best prices. That drop is largely due to the presence of AirTran, Allegiant and Frontier.Republic Airways, the parent company of Frontier Airlines, filed documents that said the company is laying off 52 Republic flight crews.
