Students receive Scuba Certified for Their Study Abroad Trip

The cold weather didn't keep several students from splashing around Sunday, but luckily they were inside.Students from Alderson-Broaddus College and Marshall University spent the weekend in AB's pool. They were training for scuba certification and this weekend was their last, at least while in the U.S. These students will head to Bonaire in the Caribbean this March. The training they are learning now, gives them a more hands-on experience when it comes time for their study abroad trip.

Three professors are all taking a group of 25 students to Bonaire. The students get to travel abroad. They get to see new cultures and new things. When they scuba dive they are experiencing an entirely different world, said Dr. David Unger, Alderson-Broaddus College professor.Scuba diving is more mental than physical. Once you get over the whole 'I'm underwater and I'm breathing' you're fine, said Vanessa McGann, Alderson-Broaddus College student.Hopefully I can go on many more and scuba in other places, said Christy Bollinger, Marshall University student.AB and Marshall have joined with Jackson University to make this trip possible.
