Maputo Mozambique Airlines LAM announced on Tuesday that it plans to resume flights from Maputo to Portugal flight in the first half of this year.LAM, and its predecessor, DETA, flew regularly between Maputo and Lisbon from 1975 to 2000. But since then, LAM abandoned the route, except for a codesharing arrangement with the Portuguese airline TAP, which allowed LAM to sell a limited number of tickets for seat on TAP flights.Currently all LAM flights are domestic or regional.
A LAM press release announced that, shortly prior to resuming the flights to Lisbon, the airline will take part in the Lisbon Tourism Exhibition, where it will present Mozambique's tourist potential.During the exhibition, from 13 to 17 January, LAM will also present its package holiday subsidiary, LAMTOURS. This new venture is designed to sell flight and hotel packages that offer high standards to satisfy all clients, particularly the most demanding.
The LAM representatives will also visit a Madrid tourism fair from 20 to 24 January. The Mozambican delegation to the two European tourism events includes, besides LAM, representatives of the Polana Hotel the best known Maputo hotel, the Gorongosa National Park, the Rani group of resorts, the Danatur travel agency, and the National Tourism Institute.
