Fog affects 75 flights in Delhi

At least 75 flights were affected as operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here were severely affected by a blanket of dense fog that covered the capital from last night till noon today.Airport authorities introduced low visibility procedures for nearly 15 hours from 2058 hours last night till 1157 hours today because of the fog, airport officials said. During this period, 144 flights landed and took off using Instrument Landing System (ILS) procedures, they said.

At least 25 flights were cancelled, 22 were rescheduled and 28 - 26 domestic and two international flights were diverted to other airports in this period.Besides, scores of flights were delayed as the airlines cleared the backlog after visibility improved close to noon.The visibility on the runways remained around 150 metres for most of last night and tilll about 1000 hours.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast foggy mornings for the next two days.
