Free online courses for students launched by St. Martin Parish

Students this summer in St. Martin Parish will be able to take online courses at home and at a new virtual school.The school district is offering free online courses for students in grades seven through 12.So many times, we lose students and not just the low kids, but upper-level kids because they don't like to be in the traditional classroom setting, he said.

The program targets independent learners, said Richard Lavergne, the schools superintendent.So many times, we lose students and not just the low kids, but upper-level kids because they don't like to be in the traditional classroom setting, he said.Students will be required to report to the virtual school site, Lavergne said. The site will provide computers for students to work on courses. At least one teacher will be at the site to assist students.
