Student Wins Study Abroad Photo Competition

A Commack native won a national study abroad photo contest for a picture that puts Italy's serene setting on display. Jenna Lanzaro, in the Class of 2012 at The College of New Jersey, won third place in the University Language Service's national study aboard photo contest. The contests asks study abroad students to illustrate why they decided to study abroad. Lanzaro traveled abroad to study Italian at Florence University of the Arts in 2011. She submitted a photo of a lemon grove called II Giardino di Cataldo, located in Sorrento, Italy. Lanzaro, an Italian-American, said her time in the lemon grove was when she really started to enjoy her time in Italy, as it served as a reminder to live in the moment. The Commack student will receive a $100 scholarship for coming in third place in the University Language Service's contest.Lanzaro, who is majoring in English and secondary education, says she plans to return to Italy this fall as a study teacher before her graduation.
