Casual wear chain Uniqlo Co. has said it will provide 1.6 million dollars to set up a new fellowship aimed at helping young Japanese study in the United States.The new fellowship will support 10 Japanese pursuing graduate courses at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, Fashion Institute of Technology and Parsons The New School for Design for three years.
The financial support will be made under the Tomodachi Initiative, a U.S.-led, public-private partnership designed to support Japan's recovery from last year's earthquake and tsunami disaster and strengthen ties between the two countries.Tadashi Yanai, president and chairman of the Fast Retailing Co. unit, said at a press conference Tuesday he hopes the Tomodachi-Uniqlo Fellowship will help young Japanese study in the United States and share many things with people all over the world.
