Holidaymakers looking to book cheap flights to Spain through may be interested to learn of reports that the government's ID card scheme could cut travel costs in the future.According to Sean Tipton, spokesperson for ABTA.The Travel Association, there may be good news in store for anyone eager to gain cheaper access to the continent in the future.
In the long term, if identity cards prove successful and they are rolled out for everybody then it would be a cheap way to go abroad and avoid having a passport for travel in the EU, he claimed.
Mr Tipton went on to note that the majority of UK travellers' holidays are based in Europe and would lessen the need for customers to pay passport charges.
In the meantime, travellers could try and get the most from their travel money by checking out a number of Spanish destinations such as Barcelona or Almeria.Currently, fans of the country who need to renew their ten year passport will pay a fee of £77.50.
