Flights booked for CNY holidays

TIMES are bad, did you say? Flight tickets to holiday destinations overseas during the Chinese New Year period are almost fully booked. This is despite air tickets costing about 30% more during the festival, Nanyang Siang Pau reported.Tickets to China, Japan and South Korea from the eve of Chinese New Year to the third day of the festival have been taken up almost completely the report said.

It quoted industry players as saying that they expected more people to travel during this festive season compared to last year’s as the economic situation had improved.Sin Chew Daily reported that consumers may have to pay more, perhaps even double the price, for Chinese New Year food items this year. One of the contributing factors is bad weather in exporting countries, the report said.Nanyang also reported that the Kuen Cheng High School has accepted male students for the third time. Also, its new intake of 700 Form One students was a record high.Principal Gooi Swee Gaik said the school had to turn away 500 applicants due to space constraints.
