Thomas Cook Airline to resume flights to Tunisia

Business is doing well, despite disruptions caused by unrest in Tunisia and Egypt, said Manny Fontenla-Novoa, CEO of tour operator Thomas Cook Group as he presented a progress report.
Thomas Cook cancellations totaled 150,000, 110,000 of which in Egypt and 40,000 in Tunisia. The group confirmed that disturbances in these two destinations would cost it about £ 20 million € 23 million in the second quarter of its fiscal year.Flights resumed in late February to both destinations from the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, France and Belgium. They will restart flights from Northern Europe, next month, to Egypt, and in late May to Tunisia. Given the cancellation and the time required for demands to recover their usual levels, Thomas Cook believes it will operate about 70% of the program originally planned.

In winter, reservations are below what was expected in all markets.Excluding the impact of Tunisia and Egypt, sales have progressed well on all of our markets in Europe, cautions the press release. On March 26, Thomas Cook said that bookings for summer since October 1, cumulatively appear to increase compared with the same period last year in most markets. The activity is dynamic in Northern Europe+11% and in Central European markets +4% but the pace of new orders has slowed substantially in the United Kingdom, due to uncertainties that persist at the economic level, as well as on the division of Western and Eastern Europe, including France. The group attributes this slight decline-1% to the popularity of North Africa in the French and Belgian markets.
