I am very excited about being an international student in Miami University,said international student Liying You.I think that Miami University is a good university and the environment is very peaceful and calm for me.Third year student Zi Ye knows how they feel. She remembers her first year on campus.When I first came to campus I actually had a lot of culture shock, said Ye.Ye said that there's a lot more parties in America compared to China. O
ver there she said that most students just studied.Ye has overcome her culture shock and now helps other international students get adjusted to life in America.
They always come and say 'hey I want a cell phone what can I do about it. I want a car.' So we try to help them out with those things,Ye said.While hundreds of international students learn a new culture, Miami University also sends several students to study abroad especially in Europe.
Freshman Kate Pfluger plans to participate in the study abroad program in her junior year. She wants to go to Luxemburg, Tan reported.I would like to experience something different,said Pfluger.I have never done that before and since I never left the country before I think it's a great opportunity.Keitges hopes that international students learn more than what's taught in the classroom.
We hope they learn who Americans really are,Keitges said.They have seen a lot of Hollywood movies and the state controlled media in China. I hope they came to the U.S to find out how the political process works.School officials said that the cost for a year of tuition plus room and board is around $40,000 for international students. Most students pay full price because they don't qualify for financial aid.
