Study Abroad program announces 2012

Gain a broader understanding of the world while earning college credits through the Indian River State College Study Abroad program. Five international trips are planned for the summer of 2012.Bella Venezia: Study Abroad in Venice will engage students in exploration of one of the world's most historic and unique cities. Participants will view priceless art at the Accademia, visit the Cathedral of San Marco and the Doge's Palace, attend an opera and float on the Grand Canal. The10-day trip will immerse students in the art, history, architecture, culture and cuisine of Italy from May 9-19.

Bermuda, Learning Styles International will provide education students and teachers with a unique opportunity to work in classrooms with Bermuda's teachers, with a focus on implementing learning styles instruction. In addition, students will visit many of the historical and cultural sites of Bermuda and interact with teachers and their families throughout the May trip.Responding to requests for another trip to China, the 2012 Economics, Business, Math in China experience will feature visits to Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Macau. Students will tour Chinese companies, visit the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, attend a lecture at Shanghai University and interact with Chinese students. Cultural highlights during the twelve-day May trip will include visits to the Great Wall and Tiananmen Square.

Peru: Land of the Inca is designed to increase each student's cultural and historic knowledge of Peru, while enhancing Spanish language proficiency. Students will visit the ancient mountain-top site of Machu Picchu and study architecture and history in Lima, Cuzco, Pisac and Ollantaytambo. They will become familiar with the daily life and culture of Peru from ancient to modern times during the nine-day excursion from May 16- 24.Service Learning in Costa Rica will provide students with the opportunity to earn credits in Spanish and nursing, while living and working side-by-side with residents of Heredia. Students will take classes in Spanish and gain deeper knowledge of health care in a Spanish-speaking country, becoming familiar with the customs and culture through service in health care agencies and other institutions specific to their career interests. The trip will be June 24- July 7.
