Gujarat Technological University to send six hundred students abroad on study tour

GTU will send 600 second year students from different branches of the engineering,Master Course and pharmaceutical courses for two months to four foreign universities as a part of its internationalisation programme.Speaking to The Indian Express, Vice-Chancellor Akshai Aggarwal said the students would be sent in the forthcoming summer to get them some experience in teaching of theory and practicals in foreign universities.

He said some of them would be sent to the University of Alberta and the rest to three other universities of the USA.The University of Alberta has already sent the course syllabus to Gujarat Technological University (GTU) students that they would be taught in the summer programme, Aggarwal said.Aggarwal said the foreign universities, besides teaching, would also give project work to each student as a part of the study programme. They would also conduct examinations, and the marks secured by the students would be given weightage in the final results of the students.

The purpose of the programme was to make the students know about the quality of teaching in foreign institutes.While GTU would bear the teaching cost, the students would have to bear the airfare, lodging and boarding expenses.According to Aggarwal, the trip would cost at least Rs 2 lakh per student.Besides, GTU is also sending 47 MBA students to visit three neighbouring countries, including Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan as a part of the “global immersion study” programme.
