Tiger Airways add flights to Perth and Sydney

TIGER Airways Australia has gained approval from the aviation watchdog for six extra daily flights after a disastrous $6.45 million loss for the December quarter.The airline moved quickly last night to re-introduce Cairns to its destinations and add an extra daily flight to Sydney and Perth as it increases from 32 to 38 flights a day.Chief executive Andrew David welcomed the news as a reward from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority in recognising the improved operational excellence.

This followed incidents that culminated in the carrier being banned from flying for about six weeks.It's a recognition of our fundamental improvement since the grounding and another step towards getting all of our 10 aircraft flying on the 60 sectors we previously had, Mr David said.He said the group was looking to set up a second Australian base to serve Asian connections with its Singapore-based parent.Tiger's parent group blamed the restraint on Australian operations for a $13.06 million loss in the 2011 December quarter.
