
I think I am lucky everything happened so quickly, Walker said.It didn't allow any time for nerves or second thoughts.The program, which is only offered every other summer, is open to students from any IU Campus. It runs around six to seven weeks, beginning in early May.It's intent is to explore two well-known and intertwined European capitals while focusing on the era between 1660-1800. The theme for the course is Becoming Modern, and students have great opportunities to learn about the changes that occurred in the cities of London and Paris and their cultural development and connection with one another.Students can also get a lot of exposure while studying in such universities and different course Engineering,Materials Science
and Social Sciences.
While on the trip, students stay in a townhouse in the center of Paris and while in London they stay in university housing. Both locations are in the center and heart of the cities, making it easy for students to explore the beauty and the richness of each city's culture.Walker, who is now a senior at IUSB studying Fine Arts Photography and Art History, is confident that the opportunity to study in another country made a huge impact on her life.I learned so much about myself through traveling as well as learned so much about life in another culture. Walker said.
One of her favorite aspects of the trip and the other culture was the nightlife. She enjoyed Salsa Dancing along with wine tasting, and beautiful walks at night with the Eiffel Tower in clear view.When in the program, students are enrolled in two Summer I courses each designated specifically for the trip. One course is in English and the other in French culture, no previous knowledge of French is required. Students must be enrolled in both courses and receive six credit hours total.
While in Europe, students visit two great places, the Chateau de Versailles and Hampton Court Palace. They also attend educational presentations and pursue their own research while visiting historical sites and museums.Students have opportunities to see and discuss live theatre performances in the center of a community where art is cherished.With all the traveling many of the students feel they become an expert European traveler and are confident in navigating the modern metropolis area.I give this first trip so much credit for making me the capable traveler I am today. Because of this trip I became confident in my ability to ride the Paris subway and get to where I'm going without getting lost,Walker said.Students who go on the trip are fully emerged into the European culture, many find their time there ending too soon.While you're there time seems to go by perfectly,Walker said. But then when it comes time to go home it seems like time flew by.Applications are available from the Office of International Programs located in Wiekcamp Hall 2277. The deadline for the application is due by Friday, February 24.Undergraduate students must have a minimum 2.75 GPA and graduate students 3.0 GPA.Walker recommends every student to study abroad if given the opportunity and the desire is there.It broadens your horizons and opens your mind to new adventures,Walker said. "It was a life changing experience.
