Flight to Singapore

Last December my wife and I had a wonderful trip to beautiful Austria. When it was time to leave for Kuala Lumpur, our nightmare started. We would be flying via Paris and Singapore. Our plane in Vienna arrived 30 minutes late due to bad weather and we waited another 30 minutes on board for flight clearance before we flew to Paris. We were so worried that we would miss our connecting flight to Singapore. We landed in Paris just in time as we were escorted by an airline employee directly to our gate. She kept reassuring us that everything was fine.

However, at the last minute, she told us the gate had already closed. We were just five minutes late. We were led to a special counter where our next flight out was arranged. We were told we would get free accommodation and breakfast. The next morning, with a whole day in Paris, we decided to head to town for some sightseeing. But alas, we did not have our luggage with us, which meant we had no thermal wear, scarf and beanie. All we had were our jackets and gloves.

We spent a good time exploring Paris and taking pictures. However, the weather was freezing and my wife could not endure it anymore, so we headed back to the airport. We had a quick bite there and proceeded to the boarding gate. This time the plane arrived on time, and we quickly boarded the plane. However, we were inside the plane for a good two hours. The plane had to be sprayed with a defrosting agent before it was cleared for take-off. Again, with one hour transit time in Singapore, we knew we had already missed that flight.

Indeed, we arrived in Singapore 30 minutes late and again, we were whisked to the staff counter where our accommodation was arranged. This time we checked into a five-star hotel room and had our free dinner, which cost S$136 (RM331) for the two of us. After dinner, we took a romantic stroll at Clarke Quay before calling it a night. The next morning, we had our breakfast before heading back to the airport for our flight to KL. The hotel even provided the taxi fare for the journey which we appreciated. We flew back to KL, this time without any more delays or missed flights tired and aching but relieved. We later found out that if we had left Austria a few days later, we would definitely get stranded there due to the heavy snow
