More 22 students get Maybank scholarships to study abroad

Maybank is extending its support for human capital development by rewarding 22 students with scholarships worth RM13.2 million this year.22 students get Maybank aid to study abroad.The scholarships from the Maybank Foundation offer young achievers the opportunity to further their studies in 36 top foreign universities, including University of Cambridge, University of Melbourne, Yale University and Princeton University.Speaking at the presentation ceremony in Menara Maybank, president and CEO of Maybank Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar said the bank was committed towards lifelong learning and the career progression of the future generation.

The scholarships are given to students pursuing financial and non-financial disciplines.These are aligned with Maybank's global presence and support our aspiration to be a regional financial service leader operating from the heart of Asia.It is more than just developing academic skills and employment security upon graduation. Talent with international expo-sure and different disciplines enrich and complement the people in our group, said Wahid, who is also the chairman of the Maybank Foundation's Board of Trustees.Present at the ceremony were the scholarship recipients who went through rigorous assessment process and met the criteria of coming from middle to low-income households.

Penang-bred Paul Aron Raymond Raj who scored 10 As in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination, said his dream had come true.I have always wanted to study over-seas and become a chartered accountant. I am happy beyond words and I want to support my family and relatives after I graduate.The four-time best athlete from Penang Free School added that he was grateful that the scholarship also offered him a five-year contract as a Maybank staff after graduation.Another recipient, Wan Amira Ahmad, who was the secretary of her school's prefect board, aspired to become the nation's top female financial analyst.When asked where she preferred to pursue a degree in Banking and Finance, she said, "Of course, in the United Kingdom.Amira will have to undergo pre-university education in local universities for two years before flying overseas.
